R.I.P Tommy Hill (RAM Squad)

We was talking about this at work on Saturday but I didn't know the name of the guy shot up at Rubens. Then yesterday I heard it was Tommy Hill aka Tommy Butta from the Ram Squad. I read a few stories on some of the other sites but some of the opinions were very negative. Tommy was arrested a while back for selling drugs and had strong ties will Joey Melino of the Philadelphia MOB who was arrested as well. Tommy gave up the tapes on just about everything he knew, when he was released a couple years ago he apparently moved and wanted to help youngsters coming up, seems like he got in some trouble out in Atlanta. My honest opinion is that he had no business in Philly what so ever. Rubens is in the Mt Airy section of the city a descent area that has had it share of increased crime over the years but nothing like the hood. Rubens is a pretty respectable spot.

RAM Squad repped North Phila since they were straight out of the once Notorious Richard Allen Projects. Tommy had the best flow and notoriety of the group members in fact they once challenged Mase when he was here in town check out that Cory AK joint I posted a while back and you can check that battle out. If you slept on RAM Squad check out their 1st album and Streets of Rage will might help you get familiar. Any how I want to offer condolensces to Tommy's family. R.I.P TOMMY HILL

Cutmaster C - Fortune 500

And I say!! Yo know two things here either I am the only one with tons of Cutmaster C joints or you cats just aint feelin him! Ha! Ha! This guy kept up with his share of tapes that had good titles and similar track lists as the others of his time, in fact, I usually copped Cutmaster C joints before Clue or tony touch tapes would come out and they did the do most of the time the thing is most hip hop mixtape DJ's were trying to keep up with Clue so they often sounded alike, yet there was something about a Clue tape that no matter what tape was circulating before hand, when Clues dropped it was money!! Cutmaster C had some heated up big time around the early 2000's and implainted his name for a brief moment and through out my posting of these tpes and CD's you will be hearing some Cutmaster C.

This was a compilation mixtape by Cory AK that they hooked me up with down at uptown Flava it's about a 60 min tape with some nice stuff on it, I expected more but at that time everybody was trying to get a mixtape out in the mainstream!! What's up family just wanted to let you know I am still alive around here just have been busy and lazy at the same time go figure that!! Let me first give a shout out to S.O.U.L and Tapemaster for keeping them things coming!! DJ Books and Digger's Union for keeping the flames hot!! I realize things have been in slow motion in the blogesphere and I promised I won't make the same explanations as I have in the past. I will say that blogging isn't just a music share network it's also an information and social network. I got another tape coming and as I will always tell you I got a couple more hanging around and tons of mix CD's to post, however I will only being doing a mixtape once a week I haven't decided on what day yet!! I will begin my next phase of my blog and that is to educate folks on hip hop as I know it!! So you get a little of this and a little of that!! I will continue to promote mixtape projects and so forth!!! My apologies to Books and S.O.U.L that I haven't posted the last projects but keep me in the mix for future joints!!!

Couldn't get the cover much clearer you see the cats from Uptown Flavor often duplicated the masters and was too busy making money to duplicate the covers appropriately however I never had many problems with their tapes!!! You know when I think of Foxy I get pissed because this chick had the lyrical skills and swagger to take this thing to a new hieght but her personal life did a number on her!!One of the most talented female hip hop artist out there and just can't seem to keep her head on straight but none the less she got hot resume!! Aint no Nigga is classic but I tell you when she first debuted on the LL track I shot ya, the lyrics were so tight I thought it was a little boy getting down!! When you mention top female hip hop artist you gotta mention Foxy I only wish that the battle between her and Kim would've been a substained recording battle but it really never concluded with any clear victor!! As usual DJ Books has compiled a cool tracklist to support Foxy's accomplishments

I aint gone front when I first heard Kim get down with the Junior Mafia I knew she had a confidence in her style that made you say who is this girl!! Well that girl became a women quickly and was saying stuff female just wasn't suppose to say. Her affiliation with B.I.G. was beneficial to the early portion of her career. DJ Books has supplied us with some killer cuts of Kims, I personally like Money Power Respect with the LOX. And keeping on with the sure shots, here is another example of Kay Slays reign and the change in the mixtape game, man it was some nice sh** still pumping and the art work to the covers illustrations and stats on the battle!! Envy was hot that Kay Slay had won the Justo award and he had been puttin out mad work during that year, I believe it was like 99 or 2000. Well we know who won in the end but hell it raised a lot of hype and as you can see kept me buying tapes to keep up!!! I gotta couple more from that battle I might post at some point!!!

I just thought while we were on them Kay Slay joints for a minute, how about DJ Envy? Nobody talks about Envy, Whoo Kid, and Cutmaster C. They were certainly in the race with Clue and Slay in fact we forgot all about the mixtape beef between Kay Slay Envy and Big Splash. Well I just happen to have a couple of reminders for you!! I liked the little battle myself especially the mixtape covers from both parties. I honestly didn't think these guys were in Kay Slays league simply because Kay Slay was a proven talent and was dropping a shit load of tapes almost every week with nothing but exclusives, however Envy didn't back down or should I say Splash didn't but they eventually got off that beef and just kept doing their thing. Thank God for web friends , The Fam, and many other blog constiguents, who have helped me to take a thorough look at Privacy, Blog Expectations, and Desire. I do believe my expectations were high even though I knew the outcome. Tapemaster gave a thorough description on why he does what he does. I have heard that from countless others who have stuck to their own agenda and that is to educate listeners and share their music. S.O.U.L. made me think about how much I really wanted to do this, Gil and many others were simply supportive in whatever way I went. But what really made me change my mind was my experience on the other sites that went private. It becomes the same group of folks who comment and you don't get to share with the world, the younger generation doesn't get the education, ol headz don't get that walk down memory lane, thus defeating the purpose. You do not have to worry about me crying about this thing again. The only decision I will be making of this magnitude is to quit all together and I don't think that will be happening soon! I am back and here to stay things may be slow things may be fast but I aint going know where and there will be no more messages or threats to go private!!

Now this is nice D Square is pretty well known in the Philly and Baltimore area for them club bangers he makes them shake that ass mixtapes my daughter knows about his tapes and hipped me to them but as you know that aint my flava so I was looking through some of my stuff making an attempt at organizing some CD's and I pulled up this one! i need to tell you I never played this and I had it for a couple of year now the cover made me thought it was corny but since my boy was selling them bootleg CD's for like 2.00 a piece at the time I just threw it in!!!Iregret not playing it though cause this is nice same ol same ol ol skool stuff just done differently, after all that's why we got so many freaking DJ's now hgh!!! Okay now I had to dig this one up !! You know whenever I hear a best of or mixtape of Premier's work I am always amazed at the resume!! This guy has pumped more heat in the hood then any other hip hop producer in the industry or the streets and probably never get his just due! I love these best of Premier joints because you can take a handful of his records and throw them on a tape and still have a banger no matter what of his you play!!Now DJ G Brown just so happened to put together a fine mixtape with some Premier sure nuffs so check it out!!!

Yo peep this I got another shit load of Dj Wreck joints and guess what they are double cassettes as well, I told you when Slay raised the bar every body had to up their game!! Again Wreck dropped exclusives but always repped the upcoming Phily artist much like Cosmic Kev since it was a rarity that you were heard outside of Philly besides the usual suspects!! I think the audio quality is good on this one although they came from the same source as the last Armands records but if not I got more so check it out!!

Let me tell you this I honestly did not like Beenie when he first dropped, allright I hated on the brother! it wasn't until the Jada battle that I actually gave him credit not saying that he won because they both held theirs if I was a referee in the fight I would've called it a draw!! For a Philly artist like myself he had skillz for real but what seperated him was the fact that for many years Philly rappers were mediocre or trying to model New york rappers!! EST from 3 Times Dope was probably the best with his own style and now years later here was Beenie. I only wish he had've chilled on the gun play and put in work 4 real he was monster at one point. Well enough of the talking because that's set for a later date what I need you to do is check it how my man Cosmic Strictly skillz puts it on for the earlier Beenie Sigel!! I still can't get 2 of the 4 disc from Original Gangster 3 to the roll but I guess Original Gangster 4 will do for now. I got a ton of Kay Slay joints and now I know why I was hesitant to convert them, they are long as hell!! I tell you Kay Slay killed it by giving you everything as far as exclusive Hip Hop and RnB. He left very little left and by that time hot exclusives were the recipe to a hot mixtape. He simply tripled the output of his adversaries. Well you check it for yourself!

What's up gang, I've been checking around for a minute and trying to find an angle for a more productive blog and you know like I know it's a challenging position. Credit due to some cats that have gone strong over the years, and the newer blogs that's pumping it out. I will be going into my next gear and that's to talk about and post mainly old school hip hop as I promised in the beginning and leave the mixtapes to my affiliates. I may post a few on a couple of forums and other blogs every now and then but this blog will de comitted to old school hip hop!!! I thought long and hard and one of my decisions was based on the idea that I have paid for a cassette deck to convert my tapes, spend time scanning covers,and taking the time to post this stuff which I find exclusive and no one except us usuals talk about it. Look over at the traffic board and you will see how many cats fly through here and click away but never say a word and this includes fellow bloggers which suprised me I might add!! Where I come from I feel like a sucker man and I can't go out like that so I'll leave it to my other affiliates!! You see posting mixtapes aint nothin for me, what's old school to most is yesterday to me so the value of it differs I am a strong collector of old school hip hop jams from back in the day so I will be back on the scene strong with that trying to continue getting trades and promoting live old school joints and old school hip hop back in the day!! So thanks to all who have allowed me to contribute and have enjoyed my posts I hope you enjoy my next phase!!
